User review:
I haven't watched this film all the way through but I recently managed to get hold of a copy as it was shot here in Herne Bay!
Along with French Dressing (also filmed in Herne Bay) this is a great film for seeing Herne Bay as it used to be! It was filmed in 1976 as far as I can tell, and almost an hour of the film is in Herne Bay. The kids spend a lot of time in the arcades and even go to the old cinema that's now been knocked down, and along the pier! There's a town carnival and dancing in the Bandstand, and scenes filmed inside the grounds of the Catholic school.

User review:
I honestly can't understand why some people disliked, or even hated this movie. I absolutely adore this movie. I think the acting is great (but then I again, I happen to love both Jeff Goldbloom and Lance Henrickson), and I also feel that Sean Patrick Flanery put on an awesome performance. This movie resonates with anyone who was the underdog in school, as I, and many were when they were young. The story is touching, emotional, and liberating. I don't think I've ever watched this once without crying. Add to that the spectactular soundtrack (which some movie-watchers often overlook), and this movie is right up there on my own "Best of All Times" list. If you haven't seen this, I only ask that you ignore the negative comments until you've had the chance to watch it yourself and make up your own mind… you might be pleasantly surprised.

Storyline:
In the 12-years-since comedic sequel to 1993's The Sandlot, a new group of kids have moved into the sandlot: David Durango (Max Lloyd-Jones), Mac McKing (Brett Kelly), Saul (Cole Evan Weiss), his deaf brother Sammy "Fingers" (Sean Berdy), Tarquell (Neilen Benvegnu), Scotty's younger brother Johnnie Smalls (James Willson), and a surprise for The Sandlot 2, a girl in the group Hayley Goodfarier ('Samantha Burton'). When Johnnie mistakenly sends a model rocket over the junk fence in The Great Fear's yard, the gang must retrieve it. Even with the help of The Retriever (Griffin Reilly Evans, the director's son), a kid who steals dog tags and finds The Great Fear's a challenge. Yes, complete with another psychotic name-calling scene with Mac and little league captain Singleton (Reece Thompson). And, of course, with James Earl Jones as Mr. Mertle.
Motion Picture Rating (MPAA)
Rated PG for language, rude humor and brief violence
User review:
If you've seen the original Sandlot movie, you will recognize numerous similarities in this sequel. The movie takes place ten years after the events of the first movie and revolves around a baseball team, which plays its games in the same sand lot as the original movie. The many similarities to the first film include a main character who is very fast, a chubby, curly-headed kid, and Mr. Mertle's dog, which plays a big role in the plot (again). In many ways, the movie is almost like someone found the old script and re-wrote it for a modern audience, changing the characters and story enough to make it a new movie, but keeping it similar enough to be true to the original story. If you're looking for an original piece that compliments the first one, this isn't really it. Like most sequels, this one tries to appeal to the audience of the original movie and takes few risks in covering any new territory, unless you count the inclusion of Sean Berdy as Sammy "Fingers" Samuelson, a deaf boy who provides an original comic distraction to the plot on more than one occasion.

Diasparagmos 1980

Diasparagmos 1980

Plot:
"A filmmaker and academic, Stephane Marti has pursued cinema as a visual art form, divorced from the codes of the dominant narrative cinema, since 1976. He is a passionate and militant advocate of Super-8, a filmmaking tool which he has used for 30 years.
His work has been shown in festivals and international presentations and has elicited numerous articles and interviews. His flamboyant, baroque and sensual style focuses principally on the Body and the Sacred.
Baroque shades of red and gold fill the frame and dominate the color palette. These pure colours are captured by a mobile, trembling camera, whose gaze is projected with desire towards the bodies of the actors. The plasticity of the masculine subject's skin is the axis of its gaze.
Stephane Marti loses his frame, rediscovers it, overfills it. An active sensuality accumulates from the intimate gestures of desire. The camera finds no recourse or fixed position, but is sensitive to the suggestive languor of the body. The living eye captures its subjects, and luxuriant editing brings them together, held in the impulse of irrevocable gesture.

This film is a complex intricate look at sexuality, history, Freud, and superstition all based in the living metaphor of England's fen land, or marshes. Storyline:
Brothers Seth and Zak, fifteen and thirteen & 3/4 years old, are spending the summer in their deceased grandfather's house, waiting in vain for their mother, who is otherwise busy, and running low on cash. To make some money they decide to rent the house out to a local drug dealer, but things don't go exactly as planned…
User review:
Bouli Lanners, a name unknown to me, directed this rather intriguing film. The story tells of a friendship among three teenagers, two of who are brothers. The other teenage has an older brother who sells and uses drugs and regularly beats up his younger brother for hanging around with the other kids. All three kids live in the house belonging to the two brother's deceased grandfather. They are bored out of their minds, whiling away the hours, smoking joints, going for joyrides in the grand father's car and when they're hungry, stealing food from the neighbour's cellar. Eventually, what little money they have, finally runs out. Later, when the older boy introduces them to a man who offers them money if they'll let him rent the house in order to grow marijuana, they reluctantly accept. In a way, "Les Geants" explores the same territory as "Lord of The Flies" – William Goldman's classic tale of children left to fend for themselves. While the children in "Lord of The Flies" eventually turn feral, the children in "Les Geants" manage to cling onto some form of normality, by rejecting their upbringing and finally, choosing adventure above familial security. Bouli Lanners gets terrific performances out of the cast, especially out of the three main characters. The film is beautifully shot – long close-ups of grasses waving in the breeze, the sun glinting off winding rivers and glorious sunsets. The pace is unhurried and no shot is wasted. This is not a great film by any means, but it's a lot better than the dross that passes for film making these days.

¿Quién puede matar a un niño? (original title)
1h 52min | Fantasy , Horror | 26 April 1976 (Spain)
Storyline:
A couple of English tourists rent a boat to visit the fictitious island of Almanzora, just off the southern Spanish coast. When they arrive, they find the town deserted of adults, there's only children who don't speak but stare at them with eerie smiles. They soon discover that all the children of the island have been posessed by a mysterious force or madness which they can pass from one to another, and which makes them attack and murder their elders, who can't defend themselves because nobody dares to kill a child…
User review:
It is hard not to be suspicious about where Stephen King might have got his "inspiration" for "Children of the Corn" when you witness the striking plot similarities between his novel/movie and the little-known but notable spanish movie "Quien puede matar a un nino?", which was also based on a novel. The subject of children who become a menace has been treated several times in horror cinema(e.g. Village Of The Damned, The Exorcist) because the idea of seemingly-innocent beings hiding dark and murderous forces within them is especially mind-bending and terrifying. Director Ibanez-Serrador (who later became more famous in Spain for directing TV game shows (!)) tries to make the most of this concept, and, although the final result suffers a bit from poor acting and lack of budget, he is altogether quite successful; He intelligently uses a sunny and placid holiday setup which gives us no clue about the horrors we're about to see, and builds up suspense so the film becomes more and more scary as it advances, reaching really sick heights of dementia towards the end. This is definitely a movie to discover for all Horror-cinema-lovers.

Ned and Conor are forced to share a bedroom at their boarding school. The loner and the star athlete at this rugby-mad school form an unlikely friendship until it's tested by the authorities.
User review:
An Irish coming-of-age drama film, about an outcast and an athlete that are forced to share the same bedroom at their boarding school. They of course bond in the process. The movie was written and directed by John Butler. It stars Fionn O'Shea, Nicholas Galitzine, Andrew Scott, Moe Dunford and Michael McElhatton. Being an outcast myself, all of my life, I enjoyed the film quite a bit.
Ned (O'Shea) is a gay outcast that's forced to attend a new boarding school. Conor (Galitzine) was a star rugby athlete, at his old school (who got into too many fights there), and he's now forced to attend the same school. The two are also forced to share the same bedroom together, and they both immediately hate the idea. Over time they bond though, and they even form a two member band together. This doesn't go over well with some of the authorities though, at the rugby obsessed school, and their new friendship is tested.

User review:
i liked this movie, i liked it lots. There was a sweet and endearing story with some really sweet, lovable people (such as Destiny, India, Lester and Guy). The pace, in my opinion, is quite fast which i enjoyed because i often see indie movies that are as slow as a snail driving a car very slowly. There is some decent comedy (destiny comparing herself to Ms.Brady was hilarious) and it's tinged with sadness(every character has been thrown out by their parents and receive some horrible discrimination, e.g. the coffee shop or the pornographer.) Which brings me on to my main problem; the hate. Yes, these people have been treated cruelly and unfairly by society and family but how can they contain so much hate for straight people? any sort of extremism in my opinion is absurd and irrelevant so when each of these characters aim a gun at or plot to blow up people i can't help but feel desperate. The theme of family between the main characters is delightful, to see how much they care for each other but, can it really be true that not one of these persons have no love for any straight people? The repeated line by Spencer had me wanting to bash his face in ("you don't know straights like i do.") I know a lot of 'straight' people and i've never been treated unfairly by them, of course i've had some abuse but i just smile knowing that, i'm the better person as i'm not offending someone by getting personal. This lovely family however seem to be together out of hate for straight people and for the abuse they've suffered. Hasn' anyone ever told them violence doesn't solve violence? But then again, i have no problem watching a few ignorant pigs getting scared or beat up. Overall, this movie is really good, the message clear and simple. if only the director and writer hadn't been so biased, it would be even greater.

User review:
I saw Tom and Huck about 15 years ago and I must say It was a Pretty Good Movie. The plot was pretty good about two boys named Tom Sawyer and Hucklberry Finn who go out to find a murder named Injun Joe who murdered the doctor of their town and framed their friend Muff Potter for the crime. The movie was just really great and had a lot of funny scenes in it including the scene where Tom and Huck disguise themselves in mud to hide from Injun Joe. Jonathan Taylor Thomas, whom I think is one of the most gifted child actors ever did a fantastic job playing Tom Sawyer and the late Brad Renfro did a fantastic job as Huck Finn. Both actors bought good performances to their characters and child actress Rachael Leigh Cook I thought did a good job as Tom's love interest Becky Thatcher. And actor Eric Schweig I thought gave a good performance as the villainous Injun Joe. Disney couldn't of cast a better actor to play the role. I say that Tom and Huck is a Great Disney Movie that the whole family must see. I give it a 10 out of 10.

User review:
This is a fun film for children I suppose but it is lacking in imagination or creativity. It's "in one ear and out the other". The plot is quite lame although for a young adolescent boy, the "what if it was me" factor is there and will probably push the right buttons just like the instant sugar rush from a cola drink. I just think it's a shame that the acting is so bad and the budget wasn't used for something more worthwhile. This film borrows so much from "Flight of the Navigator" but the unrealistic teen banter and focus on impressing the girls being the be all and end all for teen boys lets it down. My advice for parents… it's harmless but also a bit mindless. If your children haven't yet seen "Flight of the Navigator" then turn them on to that instead. It has so much more going for it; a much better plot for one thing and it's still relatively un-dated for a film that was made over 25 years ago. "Skyrunners" is a poor copy and not nearly so "wholesome".

User review:
It's quite an experience watching a movie that you haven't seen since childhood. Your memories of the film are filtered through an innocent perspective you no longer possess, and as you watch the film again you're struck by how different it looks to you now, even as the memories flood back.
Some of my favorite films from childhood, like "The Neverending Story," have not stood up well as I've grown older. Others, I've found, have been enhanced by my adult perspective. "Cloak & Dagger" falls in the latter category. Interestingly, my overall opinion of the film has not changed. Back in 1984, I perceived it as a good but not great film. I still perceive it that way.

Fulboy offers an uncensored, confessional look at how the athletes behind the most popular sport in the world behave during their time off the field. At the same time, Fulboy reflexively interrogates Farina's aesthetic choices and point-of-view, as well as the viewer's gaze at the male form.
User review:
Football is the Argentinian passion par excellence, given the access this director had (and probably only merit) this film is a real waste of opportunity. The director also narrates along the film, claiming to be only an observer but a minute later engaging in discussion with the players. He doesn't seem to be able to read a poorly redacted text fluently, accurately and with expression. Arguably, the only thing that comes across in a crude but clear way is the homosexual urge of the one holding the camera, his obsession with bulges and foot fetishism. I would only suggest not to invest time on this film or at least not to pay to watch it.

I just watched this video. I thought it was going to be a lousy Filiipino movie with a terrible story line and terrible video production quality. Boy was I surprised. The lighting of the movie had a bit to be desired, but there was good work done on making the story flow. I rate this an 8 mostly because of some of the quality of the film (lighting and sound), but it deserves a 10 for the story line. I was so happy to see a treatment of a topic that is usually taboo in so many places, but seems to be an accepted fact in the Philippines — macho dancers are not necessarily a bad profession. I thought it was going to be a mama's boy, but he's not — especially the way he and his mother interact in the final scene. Too bad they didn't put that much effort into that closeness earlier in the movie. The two boys were evenly matched for attractiveness, fitting the roles perfectly. I thought Aries was too rough of a boy to be a good dancer, but he fit well. And "boy" was suited the role. The fish tanks was a weird part of the story. I'm sure someone must have had a lot of creative thinking to meld fish tanks with comic books and action figures for the boy. Great job by all, cast and crew.

User review:
DARYL is an enjoyable and thought-provoking kids' film. The central premise is fantastic and high-concept – a rare thing for children's films. Daryl, a military experiment that combines the body and senses of a child with a microchip for a brain, is set free from his creators and settles in mid-America suburbia with a loving adoptive family. The high-jinks that result from an apparently normal ten-year-old who has super-intelligence living in normal surrounds is light, predictable and great fun in patches.
The coup for this movie, however, is the thought-provocation that arises from the evolution of Artificial Intelligence lifeforms to the point when you can no longer tell them apart from humans. This complex issue is dealt with sensitively and thoughtfully in the context of a film not aimed at philosophers or AI scientists (clearly, however, the topic continued to prey on the mind of one of the screenwriters – Ambrose went on to write the excellent novel, Mother of God, which is the "grown-up" heir apparent to DARYL).

The Unearthing 2015

The Unearthing 2015
1h | Adventure , Drama , Mystery | 10 April 2015 (USA)
Storyline:
A girl moves with her father to Stillwater, Minnesota for the summer. She meets two misfit kids and together they seek to give a ghost closure as something dark festers between the lines.
User review:
First things first —- the best part about this film is the well defined craft its director was able to showcase for such a lack of experience. Tristen James Jensen shot, produced, wrote, and directed his debut The Unearthing, a solid coming-of-age drama with an effective mix of adventure and mystery. Its narrative structure is understandable and well-made, progressing with a simplistic and blitheful flow of events, making it an effective and admirable gem of how friendship and imagination can provide a bit of beautiful succour. Oh, and this director is 16 years old.
We follow Autumn (Riley Yeary), a girl who moves to Minnesota for summer. She and her dad move every 3 months from place to place, resulting in her feeling desolate from the world and the people around her. She then meets two local teens — one a joyful girl, Charlotte (Angelina Masciopinto), and the other a slightly shy boy, Parker (Kaleb Miller). Together they unravel a supernatural secret, but these youngsters aren't just curious, and their intentions are more intriguing than the usual and conventional family-friendly drivel. On the other hand, directorial decisions are discrepant with the quality. There is an abundance of panning shots, the execution of the themes and plot can be perhaps a bit too sentimental, and the ambiguous ending, although surprisingly dense, seemed to be included to fill in some plot holes.

Endless Poetry 2016
Poesía sin fin (original title)
2h 8min | Biography, Drama , Fantasy | 5 October 2016 (France)
Storyline:
Through Alejandro Jodorowsky's autobiographical lens, Endless Poetry narrates the years of the Chilean artist's youth during which he liberated himself from all of his former limitations, from his family, and was introduced into the foremost bohemian artistic circle of 1940s Chile where he met Enrique Lihn, Stella Díaz Varín, Nicanor Parra… at the time promising young but unknown artists who would later become the titans of twentieth-century Hispanic literature. He grew inspired by the beauty of existence alongside these beings, exploring life together, authentically and freely. A tribute to Chile's artistic heritage, Endless Poetry is also an ode to the quest for beauty and inner truth, as a universal force capable of changing one's life forever, written by a man who has dedicated his life and career to creating spiritual and artistic awareness across the globe.
User review:
There is no doubt that Poesía Sin Fin represents the highest and most astounding manifestation of Jodorowsky's cinematic work.
The Film is a pure, honest and unpretentious expression of the director's youth. It is a journey which takes us by the hand and invites us to see the world differently, through the eyes of the poet ; for whom the possibility of a Life filled with drive, desire, wonder and ultimately, freedom, liberated him from the person he was not.

Now in middle age, Savannah is a New York based poet, Tom, still living on the South Carolina coast outside of Charleston with his wife Sally and their own three doting daughters, taking a break from his high school teaching/football coaching job, while Lucas has long since died while still standing up for himself and his beliefs. Lila, divorced and now remarried with that wealth and social standing she so long desired, receives news that Savannah is in the hospital following her most recent suicide attempt. Not wanting to face the blame directly as she suspects, she assigns Tom to go to New York to speak to Savannah's therapist, Susan Loewenstein, to provide any information of a family history nature that could help in Savannah's recovery. Tom agrees despite hating New York, and it being not a good time since he and Sally are experiencing marital problems, they both just knowing that things between them are not working, and not having been intimate in months. As Tom and Loewenstein (as he calls her) begin their sessions, Tom is slow to divulge the Wingo family problems to her. But he learns that she too is having her own family problems, with her concert violinist husband Herbert Woodruff being self absorbed and condescending, with their young adult son, Bernard, hating both largely because of they predestining his life also as a concert violinist. Tom and Loewenstein's sessions blossom into a friendship and romance, where their talks, in addition to helping Savannah, may help them both in dealing with their own life problems, Tom's which have been long buried figuratively and literally.
Motion Picture Rating (MPAA)
Rated R for a scene of sex-related violence and for strong language
User review:
Barbra Streisand's visual presentation of Pat Conroy's novel is excellent! I never expected a film under her direction to be this great and very expressive. Nick Nolte's acting is excellent and I can't think of any actor who can play his role as Tom. For those of you who never seen this film, The Prince of Tides is a drama that tackles family, time and emotions. The film is indeed a great imitation of life!

User review:
I enjoyed this short film from Roman Ilyushenko. A good, tasteful storyline sympathetically crafted for the screen by the director. Although it is in German, the English subtitles very quickly make you forget it. I particularly enjoyed the original music , with a subject such as a violin it would have been easy to use some populist pieces. Julian Lembke's score matched the mood of the film very well. Johannes Huth and Hannes Sell acted well and brought a natural and believable professionalism to their roles, this is so often missing in short films of this genre. Without the need for showing physical intercourse, Ilyushenko is restricted in his realisation of this encounter, yet manages in twelve minutes to give us what most directors can only hope to achieve in three times that time. His story is both simple and engaging, moving and uplifting despite its lack of complication, showing us the transcendent power of music. A 'well-worth watching' short film, both engaging and uplifting which deserves to do well.

Born Christmas Day 1960, Zac Beaulieu is the fourth of five sons of Gervais and Laurianne Beaulieu. Zac feels somewhat disconnected to his brothers, all of whom are different from each other. They include the bookworm Christian who is the eldest, the dumb jock Antoine who is third, and the youngest Yvan. But Zac has the most contempt for his second eldest brother, the shiftless druggie Raymond. To his devout Catholic mother, Zac is her miracle son, both for being born the same day as Jesus Christ (a fact which Zac has always hated), and because a Tupperware-selling mystic once told her that he has the power to heal. Laurianne has always coddled Zac, the two who have a special if unspoken bond. But Zac wants more to please his father, who wants more than anything in his sons that they grow up to be man's men and not sissies. As Zac goes through his mid-teens to early twenties, Zac isn't sure if he can live up to the ideals of either his mother or especially his father. A young man with stress-induced asthma, Zac just wants to be what he considers normal, which includes getting rid of his asthma. But more importantly, he wants to get rid of the underlying thoughts that he has and which most going through puberty have, but that for him are becoming more prevalent as he grows older.
User review:
This is an outstanding film. Quebec cinema is a hidden gem in North America and C.R.A.Z.Y. shines like a diamond among the lumps of coal put out by the big name studios in the U.S. Jean-Marc Vallée (director) proves that you do not need mega-bucks to make a quality film (C.R.A.Z.Y. cost 7 million dollars to produce). The acting is outstanding and it must have been a pleasure for the cast to work with such a great script and story. To call this a coming of age story or a coming out story would be selling it short. This is a film about family dynamics and it works on so many levels it is unfair and impossible to pigeon hole this film. Being an ex-patriot ( I am from the U.S. but now live in Montreal) I hope this films gets some play in the U.S. as it is too good to be missed. If it does not wait for it on IFC, Sundance or on DVD and see it then. Bravo to Jean-Marc Vallée and the cast and crew of this film…Outstanding work!

User review:
I like to think of myself as a good guy. This is probably defined as "Someone who feels guilty about the things they didn't do rather than the things they did do". Once in a while I do feel very guilty about something I did . Normally it involves one of my reviews hurting the feelings of someone who worked on a film. I once wrote a comment on a film called HOOLIGANS AT WAR NORTH VS SOUTH , and was scathing one of the production team wrote me a very polite private message saying the production was crippled by a very limited shooting schedule and budget. I felt guilty but also pleased to find out later many of the production team are going onto better things. The co-director of HOOLIGANS AT WAR Steven M Smith has just released a new movie called BORSTAL and I felt the need to watch it to see how much he has improved
To be fair to Steven and co it's the marketing that murdered much of the potential of this movie . The DVD cover gives the impression it's going to be a violent prison drama where Darwinian law dictates it's survival of the fittest. The blurb reinforces this too and you're instantly reminded of Alan Clarke's SCUM. As a couple of other comments have mentioned this is misleading and it's impossible not to notice the degree of the misleading advertising

Homeless, Todd is forced to live at his office, but his compulsion for sex also throws his job into jeopardy.
User review:
Lots of explicit sex in this flick, which is nice–makes it much more realistic when things are covered up. As the manager of a movie theater, Todd Verow (also the director) conveys the boredom of someone who only lives to fornicate, but finds that he has to do repulsive work in order to do what he really wants. Best part of it is that it was filmed on the sly while the director was actually working at a movie theater. The wonders of small digital cameras. Even the scene where his boyfriend beats him up in the theater men's room was filmed in the real theater men's room at the Loew's on Times Square. So everything seemed real. The protagonist gets kicked out of his home, loses his job, lives in a park. It's a morality tale, with a nicely ambiguous ending. Recommended if you like hot sex scenes.

Adam, a Catholic priest who discovered his calling as a servant of God at the relatively late age of 21, now lives in a village in rural Poland working with behavioral problem teens who fight and yell abuses. He declines the advances of a young brunette named Ewa, saying he is already spoken for; however, celibacy is not the only reason for his rejection. Adam knows he desires men and that his embrace of the priesthood has been a flight from his own sexuality. When he meets Lukasz, the strange and taciturn son of a simple rural family, Adam's self-imposed abstinence becomes a heavy burden.
User review:
This is a very effective, very positive and yet oddly disturbing movie about the fitful coming out of a 40ish gay priest in Poland. His name is Adam, and he looks nothing like a priest except while on duty. He's always known he's gay, but he's serious about his vocation and has stayed closeted in order to keep his vows of celibacy.
He has a special gift for helping troubled teenage boys, which his superiors value greatly. His homosexuality has never led to anything remotely inappropriate with a boy (or with a man, for that matter), but he is periodically transferred in order to keep even rumors from interfering with his very valuable ministry. Most recently he was moved from Warsaw to an isolated rural parish with a small work-home for boys on furlough from reformatories.

As chances with chemotherapy are only slim, he chooses to live the rest of his life without treatment or mollycoddling, hiding the truth from his lover Sasha and his family, being cruel to kindly push them away. He visits his estranged grandmother Laura for a few days and has a small talk with a waitress he chance meets along the way, a waitress who, upon a second chance meeting, asks him for an unusual favor. Romain returns to Paris where he privately puts his affairs in order and awaits the end.
User review:
François Ozon (Water Drops on Burning Rocks, 8 Women, Swimming Pool, 5X2) is one of the most fascinatingly talented French directors on the scene today. His films have a simplicity, a direct approach to the mind and the heart, and an extreme respect for both his actors and his audience – factors that allow him a means for communication that is rare and proves he has few equals. In LE TEMPS QUI RESTE (Time to Leave) he addresses that earth-shattering moment of being informed that death is imminent and shows us how one character copes with that information and how it changes his remaining days and his history of relating to others.
Romain (Melvil Poupaud) is a handsome and successful fashion photographer who is gay, has a lover Sasha (Christian Sengewald), but is somewhat estranged from his family. For some reason he cannot relate to his pregnant sister Sophie (Louise-Anne Hippeau) despite his mother's (Marie Rivière) pleading and his father's (Daniel Duval) distance. During a fashion shoot Romain faints, is taken to the doctor (Henri de Lorme) who informs him he has metastatic cancer for which there is little hope (except for chemotherapy and radiation therapy) that he will live past a few months. Romain opts to go without treatment and begins to face his remaining life with silent gloom. After a very sensuous sexual encounter with Sasha (Ozon holds nothing back in depicting this!), Romain decides to quit his job, tells Sasha to leave, separates from his family, and visits his beloved grandmother Laura (Jeanne Moreau, as exciting an actress as ever!) who shares her philosophy of living and dying and bonds even more closely with the grandson who mirrors her own life. Her sage wisdom is what grounds Romain.

User review:
Our hero returns home to his mother's house and must face issues that he was able to avoid by spending time away. Antonin Stahly-Vishwanadan is Malik, a gay man, who keeps running into Mom's servant Bilal, played by Salim Kechiouche. My complaint here is the music. It frequently doesn't reflect the correct mood of what's taking place in the scene. They use eerie violin music in much of the film, even when people are happy, or just driving down the country road. It might be helpful to match the music to the mood of the action or scene. Also, the bit about the string got annoying after a while, even if it IS the title and theme of the film. Don't want to give away spoilers here… we'll just say it all hits the fan, and there are secrets and family members to be faced, in an Islamic country yet. Written, directed, and even a minor role by Mehdi Ben Attia. Attia had only directed a short film prior to this, in 2000. Enjoyable film. Good story, excellent acting. Mostly good subtitles in the TLA version….even if they did skip some bits of the conversation here & there. It's a shame that they did not translate more of what is said in the church… would have been interesting to hear what was said.

The adventure of a Jewish kid and of his brother escaping the Nazi persecution in the occupied France.
User review:
It is the remake of the same title and turn out to be a beautiful film, adaptation of a true story that does not avoid sentimentalism. It is also the remake from the film of the same title made in 1975 based on a true story. It is a beautiful adaptation from Joseph Joffo's book. They remade it because this version is very close to the book, they actually stay with the book on this one not like the one from 1975 was loosely adapted for the screen Thanks to the Canadian director Christian Duguay.
In the occupied France, two young Jewish brothers, Maurice and Joseph, devoted to themselves, show an incredible amount of malice, courage and ingenuity to escape the enemy invasion and try to get reunited their families again. At first they went to the Free zone down south in Nice to be with their family. The reconstitution of the period even the decoration and costumes were exceptional here also Dorian Le Clech , Batyste Fleurial , incarnated the character very well it is the first time that they are acting even the director was impressed with them. Hopefully they are going to have a great career not the case for the newcomes back in 1975 however. A beautiful film with some great view of back then at the promenade des anglais in Nice and film also in Paris. The two now brothers who are in their 80's are still Paris with their families. Le salon de coiffure is still there. It was film on location, the director wanted to use the panoramic view of the mountains and the natural light. Nice little family film here.

When three gay men on a cross-country road trip enter a redneck bar, the culture clash has deadly results.
User review:
Three gay guys are driving from California to New York. They are Johnny (Jesse Archer) who will sleep with any guy he can get, Mikey (Ronnie Kroell) who's the serious sensitive type and Ted (Kristen-Alexzander Griffith) who seems to have no personality at all. They decide to spend the night at some small southern town and Johnny insists they go to a str8 bar called the Lions Den for drinks. Actually it's for Johnny to hook up with a man he met online. However things slowly (VERY slowly) go from bad to worse and all three are fighting to stay alive.
The basic plot is OK and you have to give the film credit for giving it to gay audiences quickly (there's full frontal male nudity and graphic simulated sex in the first 10 minutes!) but then it just falls apart. It moves VERY slowly (the film is half over before anything happens), Johnny is easily one of the most annoying characters I've ever seen and it's not scary or thrilling–just unpleasant. It's routinely directed and some of the acting (particularly by Jodie Shultz) is dreadful. On the upside the acting by Kroell is pretty good and he has a lengthy full frontal nude scene. Also the script itself is not bad and has some interesting lines. But, all in all, I was bored and couldn't care less.

Just saw "Nineteen" at Outfest in LA last night. It's one of two films for which I gave a rating of 5/5 (out of the six that were screened as part of a collection). As with any short film or story, there's got to be a "getcha" to bring you in. With "Nineteen," the "getcha" occurred about halfway into the film. It was a wonderful use of restraint. It created a gentle dawning of awareness that can really make a film viewer unexpectedly emotionally engaged. It was effective. I teared up with appreciation. The storyteller's heart to share this story shows through. Find this somewhere and let it unfold for you. The actors are known quantities and for them to have done this film gives credence to the story that it tells.

User review:
During the eighties I used to purchase those fantastic Variety and Hollywood Reporter film market editions that were stuffed with movie poster ads advertising the latest film projects in various stages of development from dozens of companies. Unfortunately they stopped producing those great issues by the mid nineties. Anyway, I saw the poster ad for "Moon 44" and the imagery evoked Robert Heinlein. I couldn't wait for this film to come out and it never did. Or the film was in limited release. So finally, I secured a copy of this film on VHS cassette and checked it out. Here is my review.
"Moon 44" is actually a good sci-fi flick. I won't go into the story because you can get that elsewhere on this site. The movie struck me as a cross between "Outland" and "Brubaker". I think what also struck me is how impressive the production design was. I really felt I was watching a mining station on some far off celestial body. The acting was good and especially from Michael Pare and Brian Thompson. It's a good sci-fi film that is definitely worth a look!

Four films so rare that they have never been exhibited publicly on American soil until this very night! With titles like Wadzilla, I Was A Teenage Werebear, The Diary of Anne Frankenstein, and Zom-B-Movie, Chillerama not only celebrates the golden age of drive-in B horror shlock but also spans over four decades of cinema with something for every bad taste.
User review:
I really miss the drive in theaters. I always found those theaters really nice because not just do you get to watch movies outside and in the privacy of your own car, but sometimes these theaters got to premiere certain movies that you probably can't find in a regular movie theater which are of course the B movies, which I've always loved because they always contained such a creative energy but most importantly were fun.
This is an anthology horror parodies which I really like and that's cool since horror anthologies are a bit of a lost practice, let alone the fact we don't really have many that are horror parodies. It's also in a way a tribute to the beloved drive in that are now extinct.

Manu and Nadine lose their last tenuous relationship with main-stream society when Manu gets raped and Nadine sees her only friend being shot. After a chance encounter, they embark on an explosive journey of sex and murder. Perhaps as a revenge against men, perhaps as a revolt against bourgeois society, but certainly in a negation – almost joyful in its senseless violence – of all the codes of a society which has excluded, raped and humiliated them. Controversial for its violence and real sex scenes: a vividly nihilist road movie set in France.
User review:
I'm not exactly a Francophile. I love the cooking but hate the restaurants. French is one of the great languages of the world, but I find the French attitude to it xenophobic. Yet there is one thing that always stirs my passion. I admire them for it. I wish we had an ounce of it in Britain.
The best known examples of course are the film protests in 1968 – a time when everyone was protesting about everything. But they helped, indirectly, to restore the international prestige of French cinema. When Baise-Moi was banned shortly after release in 2000, there were spontaneous street protests. Now this is a bit different – the film's artistic merits or lack of them are still a matter of debate. But I take my hats off to the French. I would love to see the British protest in the name of cinematic freedom. (The ban was eventually lifted after separate protests signed by Parisian intellectuals.)

KILLA REVIEW- Wow is the only word when i left theater. Eagerly waiting for this movie because of its pre-release buzz and national award. So obviously expectations were high but i was expecting only quality or meaningful msg and film fulfill my expectations rather gave me surprise with its entertainment entertainment and entertainment. Shockingly film entertained me lot force me to laugh out loud and to throw whistles and claps to many scenes and dialogues. When you hear film has got national award we cant expect an entertaining film like there are films like Court from which we expected quality and it had quality overloaded.Films like this impresses us but fails to entertain but KILLA impresses us and entertain as well. Story starts with a simple plot a boy and his widow mother shifts to a small village due to her promotion in her government job. But the boy is not feeling friendly here in this village he is missing his cousin brother his uncle and his old place. He like to be silent always. Then he see a boys group having fun, doing naughty things, their vulgar conversation and how they are enjoying their lives. He starts to involve himself into that group and tries to be naughty like them but without leaving his interest in studies. One day they all go to a fort for a race but due to some misunderstanding and miss communication some circumstances comes into their friendship. And from here on story becomes meaningful that how the boy starts being smart and responsible. With the meaningful climax film ends on strong note. Acting is so natural that we all will fall in love with these boys. Each and every scene in school, their activities, dialogues are so natural. Audience were shouting, whistling, and clapping for those scenes. Really the most loved part of the film for me. Screenplay is tight and entertaining. With narrow runtime its completely enjoyable. There are no songs in the movie so cant talk about music but background music is impactful for scenes. I personally feel Sound work is awesome because whenever some vulgar words comes then sound goes low and we have to read subtitles to understand it. Camera work is good. Camera man succeeded in capturing beauty of nature. Direction wins the race here. I heard its his debut film but i just couldn't believe it after watching movie. He has done clap worthy job and i want to thank him for giving us such beautiful film. Final words,KILLA is masterpiece yet entertaining. Must watch for all ages and all kind of audiences like masses and classes. Classes will enjoy it and get some msg from the movie and masses will enjoy it if they doesn't understand the quality of film. Go and revisit your childhood and those golden moments of your school life. Kudos to the entire team of KILLA and thank you all from the bottom of my heart for giving yet another quality film to marathi cinema. 8 * Stars by me.

Jack 2014
1h 43min | Drama | 7 February 2014 (Germany)

Together with his younger brother MANUEL (6), he embarks on a journey to find her… the journey of a boy who has learnt from an early age to take responsibility. In the end, his brave and startling decision holds up a mirror to all of us.
User review:
For a German drama this is pretty good. And for one starring mainly children it's almost incredible that it's as good as it is. It's tough finding suitable child actors who can convey emotions (other than being cute on screen that is). And this is far removed from cute on screen (though empathy obviously will play a major role on how you will watch and judge what happens).
Jack is the title character and is as all heroes in movies troubled. But the troubles feel more than real, the movie filmed to feel like it is a documentary (without narration). There are big obstacles in the way and a seemingly unachievable goal that the kid wants to accomplish. It's not the feel good movie you're looking for, but it might get you thinking about a few things in life … if you want entertainment though, look elsewhere

The Temptation of Eve 2013

The Temptation of Eve 2013
1h 52min | Adult , Drama , Romance | Video 19 August 2013
User review:
"The Temptation of Eve", misleadingly titled is one of filmmaker Jacky St. James' promising early efforts in a career that for me at least has fizzled out rather quickly. She made a big splash three years ago, but has settled into the crank 'em out XXX rut (think of Fred Lincoln or Carter Stevens back in the day) lately.
She wisely cast Remy LaCroix in the lead -she who would become perhaps the most celebrated actress of her generation. There's some good individual scenes in the writing of the contrived script, but it doesn't hold together. Chief story gimmick is that Remy and her struggling young beau Tommy Pistol are living at the mansion of her former boyfriend Snidely Whiplash, oops! – I mean Xander Corvus, fitting the role of a heavy oh so easily.
Taking place during the recent steep recession, Jacky makes good thematic use of the problems besetting folks out of work, and the very best scene in Act IV has an interesting variation on the Biblical myth of Lot's Wife. But most of the dramaturgy is artificial and just interesting enough to set up the requisite lengthy XXX scenes. For variation, Bailey Blue is impressive as a sexy bimbo, and always reliable India Summer graces the proceedings in a forgettable role.
But Xander the manipulator is a paper-thin characterization, perhaps passing muster in the inevitable pay-cable late-night soft-core edition of the movie, but still a drag overall. Pistol has yet to impress me, leaving Remy to salvage the movie with her always sympathetic yet often depressed character, better seen in Nica Noelle's "Nobody's Daughter", made the same year as "Eve".
